Dales Crime Drops Again

Posted on Thursday, 04 August 2011 11:45AM by Judy and the Peakdistrict Online Team
Crime in the Dales has dropped for the fifth year in a row - and the crime rate is lower than almost anywhere else in England.

New Home Office figures reveal there are only 20 crimes per thousand people in the Dales – down from 23 crimes per thousand last year.

This is a reduction of 12 per cent on 2009/10 and by far the lowest figure in Derbyshire.

Thefts of vehicles - already among the lowest - dropped a further 18 per cent, while thefts from vehicles - also one of the lowest levels in England - dropped by 30 per cent.

The 20 crimes per thousand people statistic is the best in Derbyshire, where the county average is 37. At the other end of the scale, the City of London crime rate per thousand people is 150.
